Upcoming Opportunity: 2015 Polsinelli Fall Moot Court Competition On behalf of the Mizzou Law Board of Advocates, we invite you to serve as a judge in the 2015 Polsinelli Fall Moot Court Competition. The competition will take place Monday, August 24th through Wednesday, August 26th, and you may choose to join us for one, two, or all three evenings. Judges will be awarded 4.2 hours of general CLE credit per night. On each night of the competition, judges should plan to arrive by 6:30 p.m. to enjoy a complimentary dinner and brief judges’ meeting, followed by the competition from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Open to 2L and 3L students, the Polsinelli Fall Moot Court Competition simulates the steps involved in the appellate process. Students write a brief on a given problem over the summer and then present their arguments during the competition. Lawyers from around the community will serve as the appellate judges, critiquing the participants and offering constructive feedback. Each student will compete at least twice, arguing once on-brief and once off-brief. After the second round, the top 12 advocates will compete in the semi-final round on Wednesday, August 24th. The top 6 advocates will advance to the final round on September 2nd and will present their arguments in Jefferson City before a panel comprised of current and former Missouri Supreme Court Judges. At the conclusion of the final round, a Top Oral Advocate and a Top Appellate Brief will be chosen. Additionally, all finalists will become members of the University of Missouri’s Moot Court Team. Volunteer judges provide an invaluable service to the Board of Advocates, both in the administration of competitions and, more importantly, in the development of the next generation of legal advocates. Volunteers from all over the legal spectrum draw upon a diverse range of knowledge and expertise, offering participants an eclectic insight into advocacy. The Board of Advocates is deeply grateful for the strong network of local attorneys and alumni willing to serve the organization and the students of Mizzou Law.
