About Us

The Board of Advocates (BOA) is a student-run organization at the University of Missouri School of Law that provides students with opportunities to enhance their public speaking and writing skills through practical experience in a variety of advocacy based competitions.

The BOA coordinates competitions open to all law students such as the Mock Trial, Negotiation, Mediation, and Client Counseling competition. Additionally, BOA facilitates the Polsineli Fall Moot Court competition. This competition simulates the steps involved in the appellate process and offers the top 2L competitors an opportunity to present their oral arguments before a panel of current and former Missouri Supreme Court Justices in Jefferson City, Missouri. The BOA also works with the First Year Advocacy and Research Faculty to coordinate the 1L Moot Court competition.

Through participating in BOA competitions, law students receive “real world” experience because local judges, practitioners, and law faculty judge the competitions. The competitions  challenge law students to apply classroom theory and problem solving skills to real world situations. They are also a fun way to meet other law students and get involved with your school.
